Leopard Print Skirt

Hi doll!
I finally finished this cute leopard print denim skirt I've been working on!

I actually sewed this by hand. Like the whole thing. I don't have a sewing machine at home but I really wanted to turn these pair of denim pants I never wore into something I'd actually wear!! So yeah, even though it took me a whole MONTH since I don't have a machine, I'm really happy with how it turned out

I mainly used a backstitch for this project. When a backstitch is done properly by hand, it can be even stronger than a machine stitch :P

I followed this tutorial if anyone's curious

As for the sewn on patches, I followed this fabric appliqué tutorial

In short, I had a pair of jeans, cut the legs up into panels, made pleats out of them and then I sewed them all together. For the cheetah print, I actually took fabric from my little sister's old jacket. I was thinking of adding ruffles underneath the pleats but I didn't have enough fabric, plus I was feeling lazy. Maybe one day it'll happen?

So what did I learn from this project? One, sewing a garment by hand is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Two, patience is key. There were many times where I was frustrated and felt like throwing the whole thing out the window. But I persisted because I knew I could do it (but also because my mom would get mad at me for cutting up my jeans for nothing)

In the end, it turned out amazing and I'm really happy that I went through with it! Right now, I'm making a matching top so that I'll be able to style it. Stay tuned~ It'll take another 5 business weeks
